Flying Locomotives

Soaring above the concourse at Mumbai International Airport, Flying Locomotives is a kinetic mobile installation that brings imagined aerial creatures to life. Conceived by Mukul Goyal, the fantastical forms—sculpted in layered mild steel—draw from the rich visual language of Gond art. Nationally acclaimed Gond artists Subhash Vyam and Durga Bai lent their intricate storytelling to the surfaces, painting each form with mythic detail. The result is a seamless fusion of movement, material, and imagination—where contemporary design meets a traditional narrative.
